FIRST STEPS
1. Take a look at the GOANG.COM website to get a feel for the Air National Guard and job descriptions of different career fields.
2. Call our recruiting office to setup an appointment.
3. If you haven't already take the ASVAB test (or AFOQT for officer candidates), you will schedule it with the recruiter.
4. You will also be setup with a full physical at the MEPS station in Seattle. Certain career fields require things like full color vision.
5. With the results of these tests, your recruiter will then be able to identify positions that you are qualified for and at that time will show you what positions we have open at the unit that align with your qualifications.
6. Be patient through the process. It often takes a couple months to complete all the requirements. Taking your ASVAB before making an appointment with the recruiter can help speed up the process.

Officer Eligibility
Citizenship:
All applicants must submit proof of citizenship and be citizens of the United States (US) IAW Title 32, USC, Section 313.

Education Requirements:
A baccalaureate or higher degree from an educational institution listed in the current Accredited Institutions of Post Secondary Education is required for all appointments. Some positions require specific education requirements which will be listed on the job announcement.

Mental Aptitude:
Applicants must take the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test (AFOQT) and earn minimum scores of at least 10 in the Quantitative Section and 15 in the Verbal Section. For those applying for UPT, your AFOQT minimum Pilot score is 25, minimum Navigator score is 10, minimum combined Pilot and Navigator Scores is 50, minimum Verbal Score is 15, and minimum Quantitative Score is 10.
Physical Requirements:
All applicants must be medically qualified in accordance with AFI 48-123 and must meet the fitness requirements of AFI 36-2905, Fitness Program.

Age:
For initial non-rated line appointment, applicants must be 18 years or older and complete initial officer training, a six-week course called the Academy of Military Science at Maxwell Air Force Base prior to their 35th birthday. Due to the lengthy application process you must be under 33 1/2 years to apply for a non-rated position.

*Age waivers are the exception and not the policy, they are not common and very difficult to obtain. You must be Prior Service and able to provide strong letters of recommendation and reason as to why you did not apply earlier. You must have completed a year of enlistment for each year being waived not to exceed 5 years for AMS.

Pre-commissioning Training Requirements:
Line officer(regular officers)- applicants who have not held a commission in the Armed Forces must complete the Academy of Military Science (AMS) or other pre-commissioning officer training programs identified in AFI 36-2013, Officer Training School (OTS) and Airman Commissioning Programs.

FIRST STEPS:

To apply you will need to complete anAFOQT (Air Force Officers Qualifying Test) NOTE: The AFOQT can only be taken twice, EVER, and you must wait 6 months to retake. We highly recommend that you study for this test; there are study guides online as well as books at your local bookstores. You can schedule the AFOQT with recruiting once you are prepared to take the test. The test is given on the first and third Tuesday of every month at MEPS in Albany and must be scheduled two weeks in advance in recruiting. Please call to set up an appointment to schedule your test.

THE APPLICATION:
1. You must submit an application form AF Form 24. Click here for an online fillable form or here for a downloadable PDF. Be sure to save the editable form in case you need to make changes.
2. Review the privacy act statementregarding your application.
3. Include the ANG Officer Statement of Understanding.
4. Include a copy of official college transcripts.
5. We HIGHLY recommend including three letters of recommendation.
6. We HIGHLY recommend including a cover letter, addressed to the selecting official if possible.
7. Prior Service applicants need to submit a copy of their Record Review Rip and DD 214's.
8. Submit this package to the point of contact on the vacancy announcement. Make additional copies of your package to bring to the board interview.
Officer candidates will be interviewed by a board, usually consisting of five members currently in that career field. Be prepared to answer general interview questions and talk about why you are applying for the position. If you have never been interviewed by more than one person, practice with friends and family. It can be an uncomfortable experience your first time, although the interviewers will try to put you at ease.

To increase your chances of being selected, we advise you to research the unit and make a visit or two prior to applying. Networking is a great asset and is often overlooked by applicants. Those who are currently members of the unit often have an advantage as they have been able to develop relationships and prove their skills and abilities. Even for on-base members, networking is critical. Be sure to show your interest in positions prior to applying. Meet those you could be working with, as well as those who could become your superiors.

* Undergraduate Flying Applicants must include the results of their TBAS test, which is combined with their AFOQT scores to form a Pilot Candidate Selection Method (PCSM) score.
* If you have flying hours, include a copy of the last page of your flying log book.
* If you have a pilot's license, include a copy with your package.
Enlistment Eligibility
You must meet certain enlistment criteria to qualify for membership in the Air National Guard. These criteria ensure that those who join have the right mental, physical, and moral aptitudes to perform the tasks required for military service. General requirements include:

AGE. Must be between the age of 17 and 39 (must swear in prior to 40th birthday). Consent from a parent or legal guardian is required if 17.

CITIZENSHIP. Must be a United States citizen or naturalized citizen.

EDUCATION. High school seniors or those with a high school diploma or a general equivalency diploma (GED) are eligible.

MENTAL APTITUDE. Must achieve a minimum score of 31 on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test for general entry. Must also receive minimum scores in certain areas of the ASVAB depending on occupational choice. Your recruiter can tell you what your score qualifies you for.

PHYSICAL CONDITION. Must be able to pass an initial military entrance physical exam, be in good health and meet minimum height and weight standards. Certain illnesses, past injuries or diseases may disqualify an individual for enlistment, or disqualify for certain positions.

MORAL CHARACTER. Must meet standards which cover arrests, convictions and drug usage.

TERM OF ENLISTMENT. An enlistment contract is for a total of 6 years.

Positions listed as AGR status are those in which National Guard Airmen are on voluntary active duty providing full-time support to the Washington Air National Guard for the purpose of organizing, recruiting, instructing, or training. AGRs serve full time and enjoy the same benefits and entitlements of Active Duty Airmen. To apply for an AGR position, members must currently be active members of the Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve or Active Duty Air Force.
Positions listed as DSG, are traditional drill status guardsmen positions which means that you would only need to serve one weekend per month and 15 days per year. DSG positions are typically where new recruits start and where you can serve in the U.S. military while still maintaining full time civilian employment as well.
