  • Artificial Intelligence-Based Battle Management Training Rolled Out

    The Western Air Defense Sector rolled out a cutting edge video game like training system, Aug. 26-27, 2021, at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. The system, called Battle Management Training NEXT (BMTN), provides command and control battle management operators sustained, high quality, low cost training repetitions.
  • WADS welcomes Hanson as New Canadian Detachment Commander

    JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. - The Canadian Detachment at the Western Air Defense Sector officially changed command July 8. Royal Canadian Air Force Lt. Col. Jody Hanson assumed command from RCAF Lt. Col. Michael Fawcett, who finished a three-year tour of duty as the Canadian Detachment commanding officer. Hanson’s responsibilities will include leading the 15-member Canadian Detachment and serving as the director of exercise, plans and requirements.
  • Two WADS Members Recognized at the 2020 Washington Air National Guard Virtual Annual Awards Ceremony

    Even a global pandemic cannot keep the Washington Air National Guard commander from recognizing the outstanding performers for 2020. This year the 12th annual Washington Air National Guard awards ceremony was held virtually via CVR Teams Live March 6, 2021, due to COVID-19 social distancing requirements.
  • WADS team helps historic Operation Capitol Response mobilization

    Western Air Defense Sector Airmen were able to take their air battle management skills and apply them to helping the Washington National Guard expeditiously embark on a historic mission to Washington D.C. as part of the National Guard’s Operation Capitol Response to support federal and D.C. agencies for the 59th Presidential Inauguration on Jan. 20.

    Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Charles Q. Brown released his strategic approach entitled “Accelerate Change or Lose” in August 2020. One of his key factors that will allow the service to accelerate that change is empowered Airmen can solve any problem, a people-first approach.
  • COVID-19 vaccine available to Washington Air Guard members

    Across Washington State, every Air National Guardsman is eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine on a voluntary basis, and many are. On Jan. 8, 2021, several members of the 194th Wing and Western Air Defense Sector went through their vaccination process at Camp Murray, Washington. They were among the first few groups within the Washington Air National Guard to receive the vaccine.
  • DANG Visits WADS, Recognizes COVID Response and Airmen Dedication

    The director of the Air National Guard, Lt. Gen. Michael A. Loh, and the Air National Guard command chief, Chief Master Sgt. Maurice L. Williams, visited Washington Air National Guard units and recognized Airmen for their service Dec. 2 and 3, 2020.

    The Western Air Defense Sector Canadian Detachment marked Remembrance Day with a small outdoor parade ceremony in front of the WADS building Nov. 11, 2020, due to COVID-19 restrictions.
  • Ogunniya named 2019 Logistician of the Year

    The Western Air Defense Sector’s Canadian Detachment Master Sailor Malisa Ogunniya, human resources administrator, was awarded the 2019 Junior Non-Commissioned member Logistician of the Year award from Lt. Col. Michael Fawcett, Canadian Detachment commanding officer, Oct. 30, 2020 at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. She has since been promoted to Petty Officer 2nd Class.
  • Camel assumes command of the 225th Support Squadron

    Lt. Col. Ricardo L. A. Camel became the new commander of the 225th Support Squadron during an assumption of command ceremony at the Western Air Defense Sector, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., Oct. 3, 2020.
