  • Canadian Air Defense Sector Members Complete Training at WADS

    The Western Air Defense Sector hosted 11 air battle managers of the Royal Canadian Air Force for a five week period this fall in order to complete their qualification training. The air battle managers were deployed from 3 Wing and 22 Wing of the RCAF.
  • Confined space exercise at WADS power plant

    The Western Air Defense Sector conducted an arc flash injury exercise inside the WADS power plant Nov. 13, 2018. The exercise was designed to help the Joint Base Lewis-McChord Fire Department become accustom to working safely around the WADS unique power plant equipment and practice confined space rescue procedures.
  • WADS annual award winners announced

    The winners of the 2018 Western Air Defense Sector annual awards were announced during a ceremony Dec. 1, 2018. The nominees for each award category were the winners of their respective unit annual awards. The WADS is made up of the 225th Air Defense Group, 225th Air Defense Squadron and 225th Support Squadron.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command is bi-national, bringing U.S. and Canadian forces together to provide aerospace warning, aerospace control and maritime warning for the defense of North America.

    Two members of the Western Air Defense Sector Canadian Detachment were awarded Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) Special Service Medals (SSM) with NATO bar during the WADS annual awards ceremony Dec. 1, 2018 at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.
  • WADS security forces member received rare Louis H. Fischer Award

    The Western Air Defense Sector’s newest security forces member was awarded the prestigious Louis H. Fischer Award during his graduation ceremony from the U.S. Air Force Security Forces Academy Apprentice Course Aug. 7, 2018, at Joint Base San Antonio-Lakeland, Texas.
  • Two WADS Airmen win silver at regional powerlifting competition

    Two WADS Airmen assigned to the 225th Support Squadron won silver medals at the Northwest Regional USA Powerlifting (USAPL) Competition in July and are headed to Nationals next week.
  • Two WADS ultra-runners complete 174 miles during POW/MIA Remembrance Run

    Running one marathon in a day isn’t enough for two Western Air Defense Sector members. 1st Lt. Krosby Keller and Bruce Robie challenged their athletic limits by jointly running the equivalent of more than six marathons during the Joint Base Lewis-McChord 24-Hour POW/MIA Remembrance Run Sept. 18-19, 2018.
  • WA ANG competes at National Guard Marksmanship Championship

    It’s like a scene out of an old spaghetti western movie. Standing on a line, hand hovering over a holster and twitching with anticipation. A voice comes over a loud speaker, “watch and shoot.” You inhale a deep breath and slowly exhale and count down from five to one before firing.

WADS hosted 60 civilian employers during last week’s ESGR Washington Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Bosslift. Employers flew an air refueling mission with the 141st Air Refueling Wing KC-135s, toured WADS and the 262nd Cyberspace Operations Squadron.
