Interview with National Museum of the USAF Historain Dr. Doug Lantry in regard to the Doolittle Raid. In January 1942, Gen. Henry "Hap" Arnold selected Lt. Col. James Doolittle to lead Special Aviation Project No. 1, the bombing of Japan. Doolittle, who enlisted in the Army in 1917, became a flying cadet and received his commission in 1918. Although the Doolittle Raid of April 18, 1942, caused only minor damage, it forced the Japanese to recall combat forces for home defense, raised fears among the Japanese civilians, and boosted morale among Americans and our Allies abroad. #DoolittleRaid #WWII #AirHistory #Avgeek

In an ongoing effort to receive health care feedback from military treatment facilities, Defense Health Agency (DHA) Director, Vice Adm. Raquel C. Bono, visited Madigan Army Medical Center today to discuss The DHA's evolving role in military medicine, #MHSGENESIS, and much more with Madigan's staff. When asked what our valued patients can expect to see as far as changes with DHA’s involvement with Army Medicine, Vice Adm. Bono said: “I think that what the patients can expect to see is they’re going to maintain a very high level of care. I don’t see any need to do anything where things are working really well for our patients, but I would be interested in finding out if there are some things that DHA and Army Medicine can help move things in a way that is even more responsive because I think the experience of care that the patients have had here in the Pacific Northwest and certainly at Madigan is a very high level. I’m interested from a DHA perspective in what can I do to continue to support that, augment it and keep it moving forward.” The DHA Director's message for our patients was clear: “We’re here for them. This is our whole reason for being here. This is their healthcare plan, this is their health services, and I’m very interested in continuing to support them in the fullest way possible,” said Vice Adm. Bono. -Stay tuned for more from Vice Adm. Bono's visit to #Madigan! On June 27, Medal of Honor recipient retired Master Sgt. Leroy Petry encouraged a packed audience at Madigan Army Medical Center at Joint Base Lewis-McChord to "take a knee" when they need to focus on their behavioral health. Petry, the first Medal of Honor recipient to formally sponsor a behavioral health program, focused on encouraging service members and veterans to recognize their own behavioral health needs, to support each other, and to get help when needed. "We're never alone. There's always somebody there beside us," Petry said.
