Capt. Tyler Royster, center, is the C2 Officer Warrior of the Year; and Maj. Antony Braun, right, is the Field Grade Officer of the Year.  Also, WADS was named the CONR-1AF Command and Control Unit of the Year.

Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force James Cody, center, visited the Western Air Defense Sector May 4.  Cody received a first hand tour of the WADS operations floor and learned how members of the unit identify, detect and defend against airborne threats over the western portion of the continental U.S.

The Western Air Defense Sector hosted a group of Vietnam aviators on May 20.  The Angry Skippers Association is a group of Vietnam veterans who served with Delta Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile).  They include pilots, crew chiefs and maintainers who come together annually for a reunion.  During their visit, the group toured the WADS power plant and operations floor and learned how the building has continually guarded America’s skies 24/7 since 1960.

A large crane carefully hoisted a McDonnel Douglas F-15A Eagle onto its display pedestal at the Western Air Defense Sector (WADS) Air Park June 14.  The unit received approval from the National Museum of the Air Force to acquire the F-15 from the Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (also known as the "Boneyard") located at Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz.  The WADS mission is to scramble Air National Guard F-15 and F-16 alert fighters at a moment's notice in order to identify, detect and defend against airborne threats. First time blood donor, Staff Sgt. Pogisa Faumuina, 225th Air Defense Group, Western Air Defense Sector, is pleased that the donation process is smooth and painless.  Faumuina’s unit held a blood drive April 30 as part of the Washington Air National Guard regularly scheduled drill weekend.  All blood donated through the Armed Services Blood Bank Center Pacific Northwest will arrive within a week in order to support service members deployed overseas. Leist, middle, WADS commander, during a tour of the unit’s operations floor April 6 at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.  WADS guards America’s skies 24/7 through the use of over 200 dedicated and shared radar devices.  WADS is responsible for maintaining North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) air sovereignty and aerospace control over 73 percent of the western United States.
